What is the incidence of sqamous cell carcinoma skin cancer in albinismAlbinism is an inherited genetic condition that occurs when the body is unable to produce or distribute melanin, our own body’s pigment. Click here for more information? Can you share any related research?
Albinism is definitely one of risk factors associated with increased incidence of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and SCC is one of the most common complications seen in patients with albinism. This supports the hypothesis that SCC is associated with UV exposure.
Unfortunately there is no specific research describing the relationship between albinism and SCC occurrence. So far performed studies are very limited and there are no published data that compare incidence of SCC in group of patients with albinism versus general population.
